1 fluid ounce of vermouth blanc or any other blanc or bianco aromatized wine
1 fluid ounce of French gentian liqueur
Stir all of the ingredients with ice, strain into a highball or collins glass over fresh cubed ice, and top with sparkling water or soda water. Garnish with a lemon peel.
I have no idea if anyone ever actually named this drink the way I have, but it’s quite good and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity for a pun².
Salers is recommended for a drier, less alcoholic highball.
Américain is French for American, like Americano is Italian for American and both also play on “amer” (bitter).
